Overview

Announcing the launch of the RX100 Functional Neck Trainer. This new machine has been developed in collaboration with the Royal Air Force specifically for use by fast jet pilots providing a 360-degree exercise profile, progressively training the neck to improve G Tolerance and decrease the incidence of injury. Formula 1 and other elite Motor Racing teams have also been interested in the development of this product. It was recently featured on Channel 5’s "5th Gear" programme with Tiff Needel using the machine in a training session with one of motor sports leading personal trainers Stewart Wild, human performance director for Formula Fitness. Formula Fitness is the UK's number 1 company for training drivers/riders at all levels and providing race care for drivers and the team they train and educate sports professionals, ultimately improving performance, giving them the competitive edge. Stewart comments "One of the main areas to target for any driver is the neck. Without a strong neck the driver will struggle in a race of any length to maintain consistent lap times.

This is more so as the formula is taken towards F1. Consistent lap time is paramount and this makes the difference between the average and best drivers. At Formula Fitness we pay careful attention to the training of drivers necks, we are always trying to improve our training methods. After using the Leisure Lines RX100 Functional Neck Trainer on several drivers we believe that we have found the ultimate machine that targets the driver’s neck through all angles and is safe at the same time. I would recommend this machine to all drivers who are serious about the future." There can be few sports that place such big demands on neck muscles than F1 or a career as an RAF fighter pilot, these individuals must stay in top physical shape with a high level of flexibility and reaction time. Common injuries incurred by these groups tend not to be breaks or dislocations but bruises and strains brought on during high G turns, cornering, breaking and acceleration. A human head weighs around 6kg with a helmet weighing in excess of 1kg + G force brought on in a fraction of a second in a fast turn and a head will weigh more than 40kg. These delicate and complex muscles need to operate for sustained periods of time. Racing drivers when strapped into a fixed position in a seat have no possibility of changing position to relieve an ache; they could face a circuit with a succession of left hand corners placing high lateral G forces on the neck muscles. Once a pilot or driver becomes tired physically mental fatigue will soon follow. Conventional strength equipment cannot replicate the unusual stresses in different angles encountered by fast jet pilots and racing drivers. Most drivers and pilots currently follow a weights programme of high repetitions with low weights to build long, lean muscles, with emphasis on the back, shoulders, neck and arms using conventional apparatus along with resistance bands coupled with core stability routines.
